Working With What You Have

When this couple moved from out of state they bought this 2009 home to be near to their grandchildren. She hated the dark Cherrywood wood kitchen cabinets and the red in the Brazilian cherry flooring. Their vision was for a lighter brighter kitchen, after all it is Oregon. The resolve was to paint the existing cabinets using what they had but with some unique modifications including an apron sink, taking two of the upper cabinetry doors and adding seeded glass for a display cabinet, and removing an upper cabinet unit for custom Hickory floating shelves above the coffee station. The island was painted in a “Sterling” gray for some contrast and interest. The new countertop is Pental Quartz color Misterio is enhanced further by the Z Collection T-Brick 2″ X 6″ in “Seashell” that is multi-shades of gray and whites.

Since you can’t take the red out of the Cherrywood flooring, not even by staining it and painting the flooring was not an option, all the existing Brazilian flooring was demo’d and removed. The main floor now adorns a beautiful Aayers Hickory Rocky Ridge Textured 7 ½” plank of color “Sunrise” engineered flooring that has a lot of character but in the desired brown tones. All of these smart changes make for  a phenomenal transfiguration of the same space.
