Totally Traditional to Striking Entry Staircase
This beautiful 1997 home has an open two story grand entrance that was out of sorts by the existing stair case railings of wimpy vintage spindles with a curved railing bottom landing. It just didn’t jibe with the rest of the house. The goal was to open up the pony walls that enclosed the upper landing with open concept and update that bottom landing with a cleaner squared off edge. First was the rebuild of the bottom stair landing, and opening the walls up the stairs.
The new newel posts anchor the railings with just the right architectural balance flanked simply with 2×2 squared balusters painted in white. Gone is the nasty carpet (who likes vacuuming carpet stairs anymore?) that was replaced with the new main floor Acacia hand scrapped planks with white risers. The result is a grandeur entry way that now fits with the home.
