A Clean Sweep Straight out the late nineties, the mammoth wood entertainment built-ins and paneled fireplace surround swallowed up valuable space in this family room – what were designer’s thinking in this decade? The new homeowner’s wanted a cleaner look, with electronics that are so slim lined these days there’s not a need for bulky cabinetry to hold them. The fireplace wood surround with grooved pillars and granite tile squares were also removed, then replaced with Surface Tile Texture 16″ x 32″ Mica Stone (looks like concrete) set in a subway style pattern from floor to ceiling hi-lighting the angled ceiling. The hearth stone is Pental Quartz Lattice slab. Removing the carpet and extending the oak flooring from the kitchen into the space was stained with a grey brown and transformed this family room now painted in a light grey a delightfully light and airy redesign.
