Beam Me up Scotty

Sometimes a transformation is so dramatic that it brings us into a new dimension. This 1968 home’s kitchen was defined in size by a huge beam and bump out wall as the separation between it and the dining room. The vision was to expand the kitchen not only in size but in function with different work stations, and of course much storage, in fact a whole wall of storage plus some. Placing a new support beam up into the ceiling and removing the wall bump out created a seamless look. Also the useless soffits were removed. As an added bonus, the wall next to the existing fridge was opened up more to create a pass though into the living room with a countertop that can be used for multiple purposes.

The substantial island centers the kitchen with ample prep space and extra seating, painted in a medium blue adds a contrast of color to all the perimeter white cabinets. The blue color is mimicked on the back wall of the beverage station niche (check out the beverage fridge) that highlights more wood floating shelves that display décor and holds bar glasses. Countertops are Pental Quartz Misterio, mostly white with slight gray veining, is a popular favorite.

The existing Brazilian Cherry flooring was laced in where the old peninsula was removed and the entire main flooring was refinished back to its natural beauty. Lots of new can lights, stunning light fixtures, and a pale gray wall color transform this once dark segregated kitchen into a bright new realized dream kitchen.
