Ordinary Goes to Extraordinary

This characterless kitchen in a 1962 house nestled in the heart of Sherwood was transformed with functionality and an enlivening color renewal. The homeowner’s priority was storage and prep space for some serious cooking (they grow fresh vegetables and herbs on the property). One side of the kitchen was a blank slate just housing an antique buffet. Revive designed this wall space to house the new refrigerator, microwave and wall oven to maximize the whole kitchen’s space. Removing the soffit on the stove wall made room for new cabinetry to the ceiling (a common theme in remodeling). And to make the most of the peninsula, painted in a deep blue gray, additional easy access storage cabinets were placed on the backside that also serves as a breakfast bar with the countertop overhang.

The vinyl flooring was replaced with new oak hardwoods matching the main floor. Can lights, under cabinet lighting, and new modern pendants illuminate the kitchen with a bright freshness. The quartz countertop is Hanstone Tranquility, a white with subtle grey veining continues to keep the light airy feeling. And the subway tiled backsplash is Equipe Country Ash Blue 2 ½” x 8”, we used this before on another kitchen, synchronizes well with the peninsula’s blue color.

Other parts of the remodel included the laundry room makeover. To separate the kitchen to the laundry room a five stacked diffused glass panel barn door was installed.  The laundry’s funky closet was removed and replaced with new floor to ceiling cabinetry plus an additional one left of the window. A small powder room also got a facelift with new vanity and fresh paint.

This project evolved into many other remodeling projects including all new baseboard on the main floor along with new window trims, painted in a bright white. “It’s like a brand new house” was what we heard from the homeowners, and that’s the point of a remodel and what makes us love what we do for our clients.
