Modern Farmhouse with some Brilliant Twists

SW Christensen Court, Tualatin, OR

Tucked in a corner of the house, this original 1976 kitchen was cramped and obviously outdated. Structurally, we blew out the formal dining room wall to create an open concept that draws you into the kitchen right from the front door. By stealing space (including a window) from the kitchen nook initiated the design of a full wall to house appliances, storage, and open shelving. And opposite of that wall, inspired by a Pinterest picture, a built out pantry hidden with double barn doors. Overall this kitchen is now twice the size and quite stunning.

There are many unique features in this remodel that it’s hard to pick a favorite. Thus the twists include a beverage fridge encased into the wall under the stairs for easy access when entertaining. The spectacular Wolf gas cooktop was intentionally placed in front of the window with a Cirrus ceiling exhaust fan so the husband, 6’5” tall, could cook comfortably (no exhaust fan hindering his eyesight). This kitchen remodel includes the perfect mix of modern with a rustic touch. The peninsula outside ends mimic the barn door crosses along with stained to match opening shelves. A mixture of painted white shiplap and herringbone patterned subway tile wraps the walls coordinating with the Pental Misterio Quartz countertops.

Other home remodeling projects include all new Cortec LVT flooring on the main floor, stair treads and risers, all new 6” flat stock baseboards, new front Craftsman door with side lights. All new interior three panel doors, custom Craftsman trim on post in entry way, and remodel of family room bar that matches the kitchen.
